Art for the people.
Art can make a change.

Involving People and connecting is a big part of this art-for-peace project. The encounter with Les Colombes hits the heart. Softly lulling coos fill the space. A impressive amount origami paper doves, popped in blue light, whirl softly on the ceiling, folded by people around the world, no matter what age, what colour, what religion and what social background. People get engaged, create their own doves, help each other, start communicating and become a part of this worldwide art project.

Burns & Beyond Festival 2022

LES COLOMBES is part of the Burns&Beyond festival in Edinburgh showing at the famous St. Giles cathedral. Burns&Beyond is a festival dedicated to the life and cultural legacy of the scottish poet Robert Burns, not just in Scotland but across the world.

THE DOVES

Regardless of external circumstances, peace is always a touch away – within us – and always available. Symbolizing love, hope and kindness, the doves encourage a feeling of optimism as we reflect on years past and look ahead.

The project

Les Colombes is a large-scale multimedia installation interweaving a flock of over 2.000 floating origami doves with a capturing light installation and a specifically composed sound cloud. But Les Colombes is much more. It is an Art-For-Peace Project reaching out to connect people from all over the world, all ages, all backgrounds, all colours, all religions. It is an eclectic, emotionally charged experience. Les Colombes is a testimony of our universal desire for peace highlighting unity in diversity.

A message we need to spread.

There is a romanticism in Pendry’s oeuvre that is rare in our fast-paced, mechanical world.

THE ARTIST

It seems that it is time to remind and to stand up for it – for the right of peace and freedom! May the flock of doves grow from day to day, from country to country and beyond all boundaries.

Michael Pendry

Michael Pendry is a mixed media artist, mostly working in public spaces and doing large scale installations. Coming from a theater background It is very important for him to reach people with his projects, his work. Especially those people who do not usually visit the galleries, museums of our cultural world – to experience things of our everyday life in a new dimension and maybe also giving them a new magical twist, a magical moment which has almost disappeared in our world.
